Hillcrest Presbyterian Church in America
Learning Opportunities
Opportunities to learn and grow in the Christian faith abound at Hillcrest church. Through preaching, Bible study, and as part of most of our ministries, we have opportunity to consider Scripture and learn about the truths of the faith. Three specific opportunities to learn are our Sunday Education Classes, our Winter Seminar and our Book of the Quarter.
Sunday Education Classes
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
Sunday education classes remain a vital tool in Hillcrest’s efforts to help prepare us for the many challenges life has to offer. We stress Biblically-based, practical application in our classes. Sunday School begins each Sunday at 9:45am and includes age-appropriate teaching of the Bible to classes for age groups beginning at age 2 through adult. Teachers of age 4 through senior high use the Great Commission curriculum. College-aged students and adults focus on various topics and books of the Bible. All are encouraged to read, memorize, and reflect on Scripture breathed out by God to affect thought, word and deed in building the Kingdom of God within relationships and circumstances. Please join us as we find deeper meaning in the Scriptures and more purpose for our lives.

Winter Seminar
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2
Annually, the Christian Education Committee strives to bring to our church a teacher who guides us through lectures on various topics approved by Session. Over a series of meetings on Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday morning (during Sunday school and morning worship) of a weekend each year in January or February, the teacher, often from a Reformed seminary or college or university, shares Scripture, teaching, and prayer.
This year our speaker was Dr Jonathan Master, president of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Thank you Dr. Master for sharing what God tells us through His Word about us "Growing in Grace". Dr. Master's lessons can be seen on the Winter Seminar 2024 Playlist of our YouTube Channel.

Hillcrest Book of the Quarter
Each quarter we read a book together as a congregation. Our Book of the Quarter for the Spring of 2024 is The Character of Christ: The Fruit of the Spirit in the Life of Out Saviour by Jonathan Landry Cruse. Written by an OPC minister, this book is one of Dr. Master’s recommended reads, and one of the most practical and helpful books that Pastor Richman has read in the past year. If you are interested in reading along the sign up time for ordering has past, but please see Pastor Richman as he ordered some extra books. The cost of the book is $5.
